Red jania is a perennial seaweed found in calm waters. It thrives in light and grows on rocks located near the water’s surface where there is the most sun exposure, or in sandy basins. Its color varies depending on the quality of the light—from pinkish-white in very bright light, to violet-pink in low light conditions. Its fine, multi-branched stems are composed of stiff, cylindrical segments that give the foliage a pom-pom look.
