The plant originated in Asia, and is now found in many intertropical regions. It is grown as an ornamental plant, and its white flowers are also popular for their strong, jasmine-like fragrance. Ginger lily is the national flower of Cuba, where it is called “flor de mariposa” and used in bridal bouquets.
